OGAWA NATURAL JUTE ROPE

Shibari, the Japanese art of tying up a partner with ropes, has spread to the West over the last ten years, causing a craze that is not letting up.

Both simple and complex, but never complicated, the practice is based on a few basic elements that are easy to integrate (the knot, the tension, the friction) which are assembled in figures of increasing complexity to constitute "comfortable" harnesses that truly support the body of the model.

Beyond the aesthetics of the rope itself, which emphasizes the beauty of the model, it is the aesthetics of the emotions that give shibari its flavor. The rope is then considered as a medium of non-verbal communication, a tool to express one's emotions on the skin of the other.

It is interesting to note the great variety of "styles" of shibari, that this practice can be highly technical and precise for some as well as sensual and rudimentary for others, the only real limit residing in the imagination of the partners and in their willingness to explore a gigantic terrain of set which is offered to them. Obviously, the constraints of the ropes on the model's body can be easily mixed with other bdsm practices.

Shibari is practiced with ropes made of natural materials, such as jute or hemp, because the techniques used rely on the natural friction of these materials that synthetic ropes do not have.

All our ropes are treated. The craftsmen we work with will "break the fiber" to soften the string, then burn and oil it to give it a softness and patina. This process is repeated several times until the rope is ready for use.
